Why Aspen Hospice?

A model of care

Hospice is a model of care, born of strong beliefs:

That when we are sick we suffer in body, mind and spirit.
That when we suffer from life-limiting illness, those close to us suffer as well.
That every day of every life matters, and can and should be lived to the fullest extent possible, with an emphasis on comfort, dignity, and family and friendships.

In the hospice care model, the focus is on caring, not curing. Doctors and nurses are part of the patient care team, but so are counselors, chaplains and trained volunteers. And care is provided not just for the patient, but for his or her loved ones as well.

Hospice care can be provided anywhere. Most often, it is brought to the patient's own home. For other patients, it might be in a long term care or assisted living facility. A relatively small percentage of patients seek care at a hospice inpatient facility.

What makes Aspen Hospice special?

Aspen Hospice isn’t the only choice for families seeking hospice services. There are a number of fine organizations offering this type of care. However, we believe that we offer a number of unique benefits to our patients, their caregivers and families.

We offer these thoughts for your consideration:

  • We are an independent, locally owned and operated hospice.
  • We serve all of Ravalli County.
  • We have a unique knowledge and understanding of our community environment and the local support and service agencies that are available to assist you.

So, what makes us different?

Focus

We concentrate all of our efforts and expertise strictly on hospice care. We do not dilute the quality of our services by expanding into other endeavors.

Stability

Aspen Hospice is a family of professionals and volunteers who are passionate believers in the hospice concept. The caring, experienced professionals who join our team stay over the long term and add their experience to the rich pool of talent and skills we make available to our patients and their families.

Diversity

Aspen Hospice utilizes a broad spectrum of specialists, including physicians and nurses specially trained in hospice care. With such diversity of experiences, we are better able to make sure our patients get the very best in supportive care and symptom management.

Experience and Expertise

Our Medical Director is a Family Practice Physician who has over seven years of experience in private practice, including six years of hospice experience.

Add to this the fact that we use highly experienced Registered Nurses in every phase of our hospice care services. Also consider that our social workers, chaplains and licensed practical nurses are also highly experienced in hospice environments and all our volunteers are well trained.

Intimacy

Aspen Hospice strives to provide levels of personal care that exceed industry averages in practically every category. For example, in most cases, our patient visits by nurses, home health aides, social workers, volunteers and chaplains are more frequent than national or state averages.

Translation: our patients get more attention, better care and thus, a better chance at a higher quality of life. You may find that many of our hospice team members almost become part of your family, just as you become part of ours.

Flexibility

Aspen Hospice has a “flat” organizational structure. In other words, there aren’t multiple layers of bureaucracy standing between the patient, the family, the caregivers and our company executive managers. That means we can be responsive, adaptive and creative in meeting the patient’s unique needs. It also means that you shouldn’t be surprised when our administrator calls to see how things are going.

Perhaps the greatest strength of our company lies in the fact that we have a passionate belief in the hospice concept and the benefits it provides to our clients. Each of our staff members has been intimately involved with hospice care for many years. Each has been privileged to share first hand the unique lessons, life experiences and gifts that hospice brings to its patients and their families.
